Out of 18 classrooms, 8 have been temporarily vacated, the State informed the Calcutta High Court. However, the school authorities claim that the classrooms have not yet been handed back to them. The High Court will take a decision today at 2 PM. Amal Sen, counsel for the State: On 15 February, the Chinese community will celebrate the Lunar New Year. Therefore, 8 classrooms of Pei Mei Chinese School have been vacated. There are a total of 18 classrooms. After discussions with the central forces, the classrooms have been cleared. However, they are being vacated only temporarily for the festival. In December, the State sought six months’ time from the court. The remaining central forces are being adjusted in the other 10 rooms. Saptanshu Basu, counsel for the school: The classrooms have still not been handed over to the school authorities. Justice Krishna Rao: By 2 PM today, the school authorities must be informed whether their classrooms have been handed back. The State must also inform the court how many central force personnel are stationed at the school and how many classrooms are required for them. Note: On 16 September 2024, the State Home Department sought the school’s cooperation. Following the horrific incident at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, a request was made to accommodate 200 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel for two months to ensure security at the hospital. The State spent ₹42,73,000 to house the CISF personnel. In December, the State informed the court that if granted six months’ time, it would relocate the CISF security personnel elsewhere.
