Srinagar, Nov 11: Days after an AK-47 rifle was reportedly recovered from a locker belonging to Dr. Adil Rather at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, the administration of SMHS Hospital and GMC Srinagar has issued strict directions to identify and remove all unmarked or unclaimed lockers within the hospital and college premises. According to police sources, Dr. Adil Rather had allegedly kept the rifle inside his locker before leaving his job at GMC Anantnag and later joining Al-Falah University in Faridabad. In a circular issued by the Office of the Administrator, Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, all faculty members, departmental heads, paramedical staff, and students have been asked to label their lockers with their name, designation, and code number by November 14. The directive states that the move aims to clear surplus or unidentified lockers occupying corridors and other spaces in GMC Srinagar and SMHS Hospital. After the deadline, the Medical Superintendents of SMHS Hospital, Resident Medical Officers (RMOs), and the Estates-cum-Transport Officer will conduct inspections to identify and remove unclaimed lockers. The circular warns that no claims will be entertained for lockers left unidentified after the stipulated period. It further instructs that no Last Pay Certificate (LPC), No Objection Certificate (NOC), or service book shall be issued during an employee’s transfer unless their locker is officially handed over. The Administrator’s order emphasizes the need to maintain discipline, safety, and order across hospital and college corridors by ensuring that all lockers are properly accounted for.
