Central government’s conspiracy—revealed through the agenda of the Parliament’s winter session—to completely snatch Chandigarh from Punjab and declare it a separate union territory, demands the immediate unity of all political parties of Punjab. This issue does not belong to any one party; it concerns the historic and constitutional identity of the state. For the ruling party of Punjab, tomorrow’s Vidhan Sabha session is a real test. The Assembly must take a firm stand against this unconstitutional attack by the Centre, pass a resolution of opposition, and send it immediately to the President. This opportunity must not be wasted for emotional display or political showmanship. Playing with people’s sentiments in the name of the revered Gurus cannot be an excuse to escape real responsibility. Treating the Vidhan Sabha and the teachings of the Gurus with the attitude of an authoritarian regime goes against the true spirit of the Gurus’ message. Punjab needs a clear, determined, and united stand for its rights—this is not a time for statements, but a time for decisive action.
