The people of Punjab has felt a sense of relief with the withdrawal of notification by GOI regarding restructuring of Syndicate & Senate of PU today. This was a dictatorial action aimed at weakening the control of Punjab over PU & was totally against the spirit of federalism enshrined in the constitution of India. The SAD said that the union Govt was forced to withdraw this notification as it could not defend this illegal, unconstitutional, illogical & unjustified act. Keeping in view wide spread resentment among students and all Punjabis & worried of a major agitation against this move the government was forced to take a U turn. SAD cautioned the union as well as State Govt to stop all evil designs aimed at weakening the rights of Punjab over Chandigarh. It may be disturbing 60:40 ratio of Punjab and Haryana employees, replacing Punjab govt rules with central rules, allotment of land to Haryana for separate Vidhan Sabha, appointing Chief Secretary for UT, replacing Punjab cadre officers with officers of UT cadres etc. All these actions are against the spirit of Punjab reorganisation Act, 1966. To instil confidence among Punjabis the GOI must take a bold and honest decision to ensure that all unilateral anti Punjab decisions taken after reorganisation act, 1966 must be reversed. The SAD strongly demanded that the time has come when justice should be done with Punjab by transferring Chandigarh to Punjab as per its right and as per the commitments done at the time of reorganisation of the state in 1966.
