From time to time, successive central governments have weakened Punjab’s claim over Chandigarh through unconstitutional methods under the guise of agreements. Now, the BJP-led central government is conspiring to completely snatch Chandigarh away from Punjab by turning it into a union territory, thereby permanently ending Punjab’s claim over the city. In the upcoming winter session of Parliament, the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill is being brought to implement this move. As a regional party of Punjab, we strongly oppose this unconstitutional assault and call upon all political parties, farmers’ organizations, and other groups to unite against this conspiratorial attack. This illegal interference will never be allowed to be implemented.
