COMMISSIONERATE POLICE AMRITSAR CRACKS FIRING INCIDENT ACCUSED OPENS FIRE ON POLICE DURING RECOVERY; PISTOL RECOVERED Amritsar/26 December Commissionerate Police Amritsar has taken swift and effective action in a serious firing incident reported from the Chheharta area of Amritsar. The incident involved an attempt to murder a civilian, followed by a violent attack on the police party during weapon recovery. The main accused has been arrested after a brief encounter with police. On 22-12-2025, complainant Jaspal Singh, resident of Guru Ramdas Colony, Chheharta, Amritsar, was present at his friend Simranjit's shop. Due to previous enmity arising out of a compromise matter involving a mutual acquaintance, accused Amritpal Singh Roni, Harpreet Singh Happy Niana arrived at the spot. Harpreet Singh Happy Niana was driving the vehicle, while accused Amritpal Singh Roni, armed with a pistol, fired two shots at the complainant with intent to kill. The bullets struck the complainant on the inner side of the right calf and the outer side of the left calf.. The complainant saved his life by taking shelter inside a nearby house. The accused fled the scene, while hurling threats. In this regard, FIR No. 268 Dated 22-12-2025 U/S 109, 3(5) BNS & 25/27/54/59 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar and investigation was initiated. During the course of investigation, accused Amritpal Singh Roni, resident of Narayangarh, Chheharta (presently residing at Kale Ghanupur, Amritsar) was arrested . On the basis of his disclosure statement, a police team led by ASI Talwinder Singh proceeded for recovery of the pistol used in the crime near the garbage dumping site on Marhiyan Road, Chheharta. While leading the police party to the recovery spot, the accused suddenly picked up a pistol and fired at ASI Jaibir Singh with intent to kill. To protect himself and other police personnel, ASI Talwinder Singh retaliated by firing one round from his service carbine, which struck the accused on his right leg. The accused fell to the ground and was overpowered by the police party. He was provided first aid and immediately shifted to Hospital for medical treatment.
