We condemn the arrest of Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and other youths by Delhi Police. Criminalizing peaceful protest is against democratic traditions and constitutional limitations. Indian Constitution gives every citizen the right to freedom of expression and to peacefully gather. This right is not the grace of any government, but the expression of the sovereignty of the people. Unnecessary curbs on these weaken the democratic balance. The core sense of the Indian Constitution - freedom, equality and justice - should be reflected not only in words but also in conduct. Ensure immediate release of Youth Congress president and other colleagues.
