MC Chandigarh launches strict anti-littering crackdown: Reward for reporting & public shaming drive begins - Whatsup number for complaint (9915762917) Chandigarh, November 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has initiated a stringent and impactful campaign to curb littering in public places, reinforcing its commitment to a clean and responsible city. As part of this new drive, citizens are encouraged to actively participate by reporting incidents of littering. Any person who uploads a video or photograph of a litter bug through the MCC WhatsApp complaint number or the I’m Chandigarh mobile app will be rewarded with ₹250, after on-ground verification by the field staff. Individuals caught littering through these verified photo or video submissions will be immediately challaned under the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules. MCC aims to send a strong message that irresponsible disposal of waste will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In addition, MCC is launching an innovative deterrence measure—public shaming of habitual litter bugs. On being caught, the concerned Sanitary Inspector (SI) will collect the garbage thrown by the violator and place it at the individual’s residence. The process will be documented through photographs and high-quality video footage. Further, Dholi and artists performing Boliyan will accompany the team to conduct public shaming outside the violator’s house, reinforcing the message: “Littering? Smile Please… You Are on Camera!” The recorded footage will be posted on MCC’s official social media platforms. MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has issued strict directions to all field staff to ensure zero-tolerance enforcement. He stated that MCC will take the harshest permissible action against those who continue to defy cleanliness norms and that habitual violators will face repeated challans and intensified public shaming measures. He emphasized that keeping Chandigarh clean is not just a civic duty but a legal obligation, and no one will be spared for deliberate littering. The Commissioner further appealed to all residents to avoid littering in public places, maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, and actively support the city’s cleanliness drive. He urged citizens to responsibly dispose of waste, follow segregation norms, and join hands with MCC in preserving Chandigarh’s reputation as one of the cleanest and most beautiful cities in the country.
