Hyderabad: An incident in which a lorry driver followed Google Maps and ended up driving into a river occurred on Tuesday in Atmakur mandal of Wanaparthy district. Basha, a lorry driver transporting a load of goods from Bethamcherla in Andhra Pradesh to Makthal town in Telangana, had a harrowing experience. While traveling from Atmakur to Makthal via National Highway 44 near Kothakota, he relied on Google Maps for navigation. After reaching Atmakur crossroads, instead of taking the right turn, he continued straight for about three kilometers. As there was no one around to ask for directions, Basha continued driving by following Google Maps. The map route led him towards the Lower Jurala river, and in the early hours of the morning, while drowsy, the driver unknowingly drove the lorry into the river. Noticing water near the riverbank, the driver suddenly woke up, applied the brakes immediately, and narrowly escaped a major accident. The lorry had partially entered the river, and locals faced several difficulties while unloading the goods and pulling the vehicle back.
