Family Shocked After Medical Student from Qazigund Detained by UP ATS Mother says, “My son is innocent; he could never do something like this.” Qazigund, Nov 13: The family of Mohammad Arif Mir, a medical student from Khagund Qazigund, has been left stunned and heartbroken after learning that he was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in connection with the case involving Dr. Shaheen. Speaking to this reporter, Arif’s mother, visibly distressed, declined to appear on camera but firmly defended her son’s innocence. “My son is innocent. He even gets frightened over small things how can he possibly be involved in anything like this?” she said. She added that Arif had regular interactions with other doctors because of his medical profession. “Being a doctor, he is in touch with many other doctors. Maybe he had some professional work with them — but how can that be grounds for arrest?” she asked tearfully. According to the family, Arif had a video call with his mother at around 4 p.m. yesterday and another call with his fiancée around 6 p.m. Later this morning, they received a phone call informing them that he had been detained by the UP ATS. Soon after the news broke, Qazigund Police visited the family home to gather details as part of their coordination with the investigating agencies. The family has appealed to authorities to ensure a fair investigation and expressed hope that the truth will come out soon, clearing Arif’s name.
