Exclusive Story: Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah condemns Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which he allegedly pulled the veil (naqab) of a Muslim woman doctor during an official function in Bihar, terming the act 'deeply disturbing and indefensible.' President of Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah, Riaz Ahmed Najar, along with other office bearers, said the incident amounted to a public humiliation of a Muslim woman and an affront to her dignity, faith, and personal autonomy. 'Such a public insult violates a woman’s dignity, faith, and personal autonomy. No constitutional office grants a license to humiliate women or target religious identity. This conduct is unacceptable and must be unequivocally condemned. An unconditional public apology is owed,' Najar said. He further added that the act was 'deeply hurtful, unacceptable, and in clear violation of the democratic and constitutional values of India.' 'Such conduct does not befit a person holding a high constitutional office and sends a disturbing message to minority communities across the country,' he said. Asrar Tak, another office bearer of Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah, said Islam accords dignity and empowerment to women, adding that the hijab is a religious obligation rooted in faith, modesty, and self-respect. 'The woman involved was a doctor—a symbol of education, service, and empowerment. Subjecting her to public humiliation only deepens the gravity of the incident,' Tak said. The organisation demanded an 'unconditional public apology' from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take cognisance of the matter. They stated that the government claims commitment to women’s dignity and empowerment through initiatives such as the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. Questioning the spirit of the campaign, the Anjuman asked, 'Is this the real face of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao when an educated woman doctor is made to experience such a shameful incident?'
