Forest Block,
Exclusive Ground Zero Report on Bandh observed across Chenab Valley over killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Heavy security deployed; administration and police conduct march in Bhaderwah. Officials say situation peaceful; government schools and essential services remain functional. By Raja Rehber Jamal Location-Bhaderwah Anchor:A complete bandh is being observed across Chenab Valley—including Bhaderwah, Doda, Thathri, Gandoh, Kishtwar, and Drabshalla—as Muslim religious leaders and community organisations condemned the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s long-serving Supreme Leader. The bandh call was issued by prominent religious figures and local bodies, who described the incident as the shahadat (martyrdom) of Khamenei, following confirmation of his death on February 28, 2026. Across the Chenab Valley, which spans Bhaderwah, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, the response reflected solidarity from sections of the local population—particularly among Shia communities and others expressing affinity with Iran’s Islamic leadership. The bandh call was jointly initiated by Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah President Riaz Ahmed Najar, Chairman Seerat Committee Doda Khalid Najib Suharwardy, and Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, urging a complete shutdown in Bhaderwah, Doda, and Kishtwar. In Thathri, the Jamia Masjid Committee and the Beopar Mandal traders’ body announced a total shutdown, while in Drabshalla, the Imam of Jamia Masjid called for observance of the bandh in response to the development. Speaking to the media, Riaz Ahmed Najar said the bandh was a peaceful expression of grief and condemnation, appealing to residents to close shops, suspend commercial activity, and restrict movement. He strongly criticised what he termed aggression against Iran and voiced solidarity with the Iranian people and leadership. Markets, businesses, and public transport remained shut across the affected areas, while government schools and essential services continued to function normally. Meanwhile, security has been tightened across the area to prevent any untoward incident and to maintain close vigil over the situation following the bandh call. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal, Superintendent of Police Vinod Sharma, Station House Officer Suresh Gautam, and Inspector Irshad Ahmed, along with personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force and other security agencies, conducted a flag march through the main market of Bhaderwah to assess the ground situation. Officials reviewed security arrangements, monitored public movement, and interacted with local stakeholders to ensure peace and law and order during the shutdown. According to reports from Iranian state media and international outlets, the 86-year-old Supreme Leader—who had been in office since 1989—was killed during large-scale airstrikes carried out jointly by the United States and Israel, targeting sites in Iran, including the capital Tehran. An interim council has since been formed in Iran to manage state affairs until the appointment of a new Supreme Leader. Feed. Shots Byte of President Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah Riaz Ahmed Najar.
