Two days after an earthquake jolted parts of north Kashmir, a residential house that had developed deep cracks witnessed more damage after a major portion of the house collapsed on Wednesday in Tanghat village of Bandipora district, leaving a family homeless in the middle of winter. According to locals, the house was damaged during the recent tremor, after which visible cracks appeared in the walls and roof. Fearing danger, the family had shifted some belongings outside. On Wednesday morning, the weakened structure finally gave way and collapsed. No injuries were reported, as the family was not inside at the time. “The earthquake damaged our home and large cracks appeared. We informed officials, but before any help arrived, the house collapsed. Now we are left without shelter in this cold,” said the head of the affected family. Another family member said the winter conditions have made survival difficult. “Our children and elderly have nowhere safe to stay. We are spending nights with neighbours, but it is not a solution. We urgently need assistance,” the relative said. The affected family has appealed to the district administration and disaster management authorities to assess the damage and provide immediate relief, including temporary accommodation and financial assistance for reconstruction.
