Anchor:In a spirited display of community engagement and environmental responsibility, the 12 RR (GRENADIERS) of the Indian Army, in collaboration with local students of Banihal in District Ramban, organized a comprehensive plantation and cleanliness drive at Helipad Gund in Banihal area of Ramban on Tuesday to mark World Ozone Day.
The event began with a pledge to protect natural resources and safeguard the ozone layer for future generations. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in cleaning public spaces, removing plastic waste, and planting saplings to encourage eco-friendly practices. Awareness talks and interactive sessions were also conducted to highlight the significance of reducing pollution and preserving the ozone layer.
The day was celebrated under the theme “From Science to Global Action.”
Students also spoke about the importance of conserving forests and protecting the environment, stressing that human survival is directly linked to ecological balance. Referring to the recent cloudbursts and landslides triggered by torrential rains in the region, they underlined how environmental degradation worsens natural disasters and urged collective action to safeguard nature.
Speaking on the occasion, officers of the 12 RR (GRENADIERS) said, “This collaboration with youth reinforces the importance of collective responsibility towards a cleaner India. It is heartening to see such enthusiasm and sense of responsibility amongst the students.”
The initiative is part of the Army’s ongoing civic action programme aimed at fostering strong civil-military relations while promoting social welfare and environmental conservation.
