Operation Prahar: Punjab Police to launch Operation Prahar 2.0, 72 hours and 12,000 personnel to take charge. Punjab Police is launching Operation Prahar-2 on Monday, under which wanted criminals will be apprehended within 72 hours. Senior officers will oversee the operation in police districts. CPs/SSPs have been instructed to personally visit areas of serious crime. Staff deployment has been increased in core areas and police stations for the operation. Wanted criminals will be apprehended during the campaign. The campaign will continue for 72 hours and 12,000 police personnel will be deployed. Senior officers will be deployed for supervision during the campaign. Staff deployment will be increased in core areas and police stations. Senior officers will visit the field and assign responsibilities to officers. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that during the special operation, which lasted from January 20 to February 6, 2026, 631 raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 269 suspects. According to police, the arrested suspects include associates of nine gangsters, relatives of four gangsters, and 256 other criminals involved in various criminal cases. Preventive action was also taken against 479 individuals, including associates, relatives, and other suspects, to strengthen law and order. As part of the operation, police also arrested 19 proclaimed offenders. To curb illegal activities, 15 travel agents and gun houses were also thoroughly searched. A large quantity of illegal material was recovered during the police operation, including 21 pistols, one gun, 70 live cartridges, two magazines, approximately 2 kg 989 grams of heroin, 1,280 bullets, drug money worth ₹866,260, 204 grams of gold, and 74 bottles of illicit liquor. In addition, 32 two-wheelers, two four-wheelers, one tricycle, 27 mobile phones, and sticks, hammers, and iron rods were also seized. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that such intelligence-based operations will continue to maintain law and order in the city and to completely curb the smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons.
