A Pakistani spy has been arrested in Amritsar, Punjab. The accused allegedly passed intelligence related to the Indian Army to the country's enemies. A CD and a mobile phone were also recovered from the accused, which are being investigated.
The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has arrested a young man on charges of espionage. According to police, the accused, identified as Harpal Singh (35), a farmer, was allegedly passing sensitive information related to the Indian Army to a Pakistani intelligence agency.
According to police officials, Harpal Singh had been in contact with Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, for about a year. Security agencies received confidential information regarding this matter, which led to increased surveillance and action. The accused was detained during a blockade.
During the search, a mobile phone and a CD were reportedly recovered from the accused. Preliminary investigations revealed some Pakistani numbers on the mobile phone, raising suspicions of cross-border connections. The recovered material has been sent for investigation.
Police say the accused is a resident of the border area of Ajnala tehsil in Amritsar district. His activities were already under surveillance due to his location near the border. During interrogation, efforts are being made to determine the channels through which information was shared and whether other individuals are involved in this network. A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway. Security agencies consider the entire incident to be related to national security and are conducting a thorough investigation.
