No casualties reported in the fire incident at the Staff Quarter block of MPs’ Flats in Brahmaputra Building, BD Marg, New Delhi. The coordinated response of CPWD officials and the Delhi Fire Service brought the situation under control quickly. The incident occurred this afternoon in the silt area where some unserviceable furniture articles were stacked and firecrackers were ignited by children. At approximately 1:15 PM the fire originated; it was noticed at 1:18 PM. Before fire tenders arrived, CPWD officials cut off power supply and IGL gas connection and evacuated the premises. The fire was extinguished by 1:45 PM. All firefighting systems installed were operational and were used to contain the fire before the arrival of fire tenders. The NBC 2016 does not mandate sprinklers in the silt area.
