Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Urges President of India to Extend Deadline for Waqf Property Registration 5 December 2025: Congress Working Committee member Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has once again raised concern over the 6 December, deadline for registering Waqf properties on the UMEED Portal, urging the Hon’ble President of India to intervene and extend the time-frame. Shri Chowdhury noted that West Bengal, with over 1.5 lakh Waqf properties, faces extraordinary challenges—mainly the absence of adequate historical documentation—making it impossible to complete registration within the current deadline. He had earlier written to the Union Minister for Minority Affairs on the same issue, highlighting the severe difficulties and requesting an extension. With no relief yet granted, he has reiterated his appeal, emphasising that the problem in West Bengal is “far more acute compared to other states.” Urging urgent intervention from the highest constitutional authority, Shri Chowdhury has requested that the time-limit be extended until every Waqf property in the state is duly registered, ensuring that community institutions are not unfairly affected due to long-standing documentation gaps.
