Cyber Crime Police Station arrest in Case of Online Circulation of Child Sexual Exploitation Material
In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh has arrested One (01) accused person in connection with Case of Online Circulation of Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEAM) The case was registered under Case FIR No 29 DATED 19.02.2026 under section 67 B of IT Act 2000 PS – Cyber Crime, Chandigarh.
The operation was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP–Cyber, UT Chandigarh. with close guidance from Sh. A. Venkatesh, DSP Cyber Crime & IT, and under the supervision of Inspector Ms. Eram Rizvi, SHO, PS–Cyber Crime, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The team worked with the OCWC (Online Crime Against Women and Children) unit, and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, provided technical support and guidance during the investigation.

CASE SUMMARY
Chandigarh Police Station- Cyber Crime has arrested an accused in connection with an online case involving the upload and transmission of Child Sexual Exploitation and Abusive Material (CSEAM).
A Cyber Tipline Report was received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) with priority level “E”. The report indicated that an alleged Instagram account had uploaded/transmitted objectionable content involving a minor.
Upon receipt of the tipline, a preliminary enquiry was conducted by the Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector-17, Chandigarh. Technical analysis and IP details provided in the report were examined. The IP address was traced through the concerned Internet Service Provider, and subscriber details were obtained as per due legal process. Call Detail Records and other digital evidence corroborated the findings.
Based on the preliminary enquiry and digital evidence, a case FIR no 29 dt 19.02.2026 under Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act, 2000 was registered at PS Cyber Crime, Sector-17, Chandigarh.
During the course of investigation, the accused person was identified, located, and arrested by the Cyber Crime team. The accused has been formally arrested and further investigation is in progress. Electronic devices used in the commission of the offence have been taken into possession for forensic examination and forensic support was provided by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the ministry of home affairs, enabling swift identification and arrested of the suspects.
Chandigarh Police reiterates its commitment to taking strict action against crimes involving exploitation of children in the digital space. Citizens are urged to report any such suspicious online activity through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or by contacting local police authorities immediately.
Advisory for the Public:
1. Do Not Create, Upload, Share or Store Objectionable Content Involving Minors
Production, transmission, browsing, downloading, or possession of any sexual content involving children is a serious criminal offence.
2. Monitor Children’s Online Activity Parents/guardians should regularly supervise the social media platforms, apps, and websites accessed by children.
3. Avoid Sharing Intimate Images Children and adolescents must be educated about the risks of sharing private or sensitive images/videos online.
4. Digital Activities Are Traceable-
Social media platforms, email services, and internet service providers maintain digital logs. IP addresses, device details, and subscriber information can be traced during investigation.
5. Use Social Media Responsibly Citizens are advised to use digital platforms responsibly and strictly avoid accessing or engaging with illegal or exploitative content.
6. Report Instead of Circulating If such material is encountered online, do not share it. Immediately report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or inform the nearest police station.
7. Report Suspicious Content Immediately Any objectionable content involving minors should be reported immediately on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or to the nearest police station.
