*22-Year-Old Young Guy Sahil Rai Gives Life To Safe Stranger At Mirik Lake ,While Stranger Was Safe But Young Guy Death* A heart-wrenching incident occurred at Mirik Lake on Laxmi Puja night, October 20, 2025, when 22-year-old Sahil Rai, a resident of Thurbo LD Bahadur Gaon, lost his life while saving a stranger, Sadip Darjee, from Mirik Bazar, who allegedly attempted suicide by drowning in the lake. Sahil Rai bravely jumped into the water to rescue Sadip, and in a tragic turn of events, he went missing. Despite his own life being at risk, Sahil managed to save Sadip's life. Sadip Darjee, who tried to take his own life due to family issues, is currently undergoing treatment at Mirik BPHC. He stated that he got intoxicated and attempted suicide around 11 pm on October 20 due to family issues. The duo was unknown to each other, and Sahil's selfless act has left the community in shock. "Sahil was a very good person, always willing to help others and had a strong social presence in the community. He had no negative records and was loved by everyone," said Samir Rai, Panchayat Pradhan of Sahil's village. "It's tragic that he lost his life while saving a stranger. He will be deeply missed. He has two elder brothers and he is the youngest one." After an extensive search operation involving Mirik SDO, SDPO, Mirik police, locals, Mirik BPHC team, and the Fire department, with the help of boat stand staffs, Sahil Rai's body was recovered on October 21 around 8 am and brought to Mirik BPHC. The search operation was held as soon as the incident occurred on October 20 night but couldn't be rescued due to night. The body has been taken to NBMCH Siliguri. Villagers praise Sahil as a hero and his sacrifice will be remembered as a testament to humanity and bravery.
