Shopian Villagers Protest Severe Water Shortage, Blame Jal Shakti

Residents from over 12 villages in Shopian district, Kashmir, staged protests today against the Jal Shakti Department due to an acute water crisis. The affected villages include Mukani Dunaroo, Check Nasipora, Marah Patri, Chotah Wali, Sogikarag Paswal Mohalla, Shalidoor Madaan Mohli Muldag, and Choridara. Villagers expressed their frustration over the prolonged water shortage and demanded immediate action from the authorities to address the issue.

Parents and locals have expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating condition of Government Middle School Bala Bohri Hallan in Shopian. The building's dilapidated state is causing significant disruptions to students' education. During rainstorms, water leaks through the roof, forcing students to return home. This ongoing issue has prompted urgent calls for immediate repairs and improvements to ensure a safe learning environment for the children.

In Shopian, ARTO Mr. Arif led a special crackdown on bike riders violating traffic laws at the Old Fruit Mandi. The operation focused on riders not wearing helmets, leading to numerous fines. Mr. Arif stressed the importance of helmet use for safety and adherence to traffic regulations. The crackdown aimed to increase awareness among riders about the necessity of wearing helmets.

Ijaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of Sericulture, visited a sericulture farm in Lousedanew, Shopian. During his visit, he inaugurated a three-day skill enhancement training program for local farmers, focusing on improving sericulture farming practices. The program is designed to benefit many farmers in the area.

Shopian's District Hospital now has advanced medical tools like CT scans and digital X-ray machines. Before, locals had to go to Srinagar for these services, causing long waits.
