With an aim to provide a platform for youth and channel their energy towards positive activities, the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles unit based at Bhaderwah organized a mega cricket tournament — the ‘Olive Green Cup’ — which concluded today with the final match and valedictory ceremony. The event was held under Operation Sadhbhavana at the Sports Ground of Government Degree College Bhaderwah, witnessing massive enthusiasm and participation. DDC Chairman Doda Dhananter Singh Kotwal presided over the concluding ceremony as the chief guest. Colonel Yogesh Chouhan, Commanding Officer 4 Rashtriya Rifles; ADC Bhaderwah Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal; SDPO Naveed Shoket Qazi; SHO Bhaderwah Suresh Gautam, and several other dignitaries graced the event. Noted educationist Arif Rana anchored the ceremony. Former President Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah Abdul Hafiz, YAC President Naseer Mehboob, and other prominent citizens were also present. The final match was contested between Masood Cricket Club (MCC) and Youth Cricket Club (YCC). After winning the toss, YCC elected to bat first and posted a good total of 180 runs in 20 overs. In response, MCC scored 160 runs, losing all wickets and handing YCC a 20-run victory to lift the maiden Olive Green Cup. Addressing the gathering, Col Yogesh Chouhan said the initiative aims to provide a meaningful platform for youth to showcase sporting talent and steer them away from negative influences. He added that the one-and-a-half-month-long tournament, featuring over 80 teams, was organized to promote local talent and encourage a drug-free society. The CO 4RR also extended gratitude to the civil administration, police, local organizers, and the Bhaderwah Development Authority for their cooperation. Educationist Arif Rana praised the Indian Army for the positive initiative and expressed hope for more such youth-oriented activities in the future. Winning captain Arshad Ahmed, who is known as Brett Lee for his bowling, said tournaments of such scale make a significant difference and provide a much-needed platform for budding cricketers in the region.
